Brine Concentration System (BCS)

A radical solution integrating RO and FO membrane processes. This innovative approach dramatically reduces disposal needs and evaporator costs; heralding a fresh era of efficiency and sustainability for ZLD plants.

OVERVIEW

By ingeniously merging the time-tested Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane desalination technology with the reborn Forward Osmosis (FO) membrane process, the Brine Concentration System (BCS) emerges as a game-changer in Zero Liquid Discharge/Minimum Liquid Discharge type projects. Capable of concentrating high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) conventional SWRO rejects or process effluents from 4-7% concentrations to 12-20%, the BCS heralds a significant reduction in the need for concentrate disposal via Thermal Evaporators or Spray Dryers, slashing energy requirements by more than 50%.

The Brine Concentration System is a non-thermal membrane-based technology that is similar to conventional RO systems in terms of appearance, operations and feed pretreatment, but provides a highly concentrated brine even while working at SWRO pressures of 70-80 bar. It is a natural extension of RO system and results in a very low volume of reject that requires thermal evaporation. The BCS can also be employed for brine valorization project to mine salts

This innovative system not only optimizes resource utilization but also underscores a commitment to sustainability by minimizing energy consumption and environmental impact associated with concentrate disposal. In essence, the BCS represents a paradigm shift in ZLD technology, propelling wastewater treatment towards greater efficiency, affordability, and ecological stewardship.
